Exiting the text-typing mode in Illustrator
If you work with text boxes in Photoshot a lot, you get used to finishing your text entry not by clicking another tool (which is slow because you have to get one hand off the keyboard) but by hitting the right-most Enter key on your keyboard. While it and Return usually do the same thing, in Photoshop they’re different; Return gives you a new line, Enter commits your text and switches you back to the regular editing mode, where you can now hit a keyboard shortcut to switch to another tool.*
This doesn’t work in Illustrator, however. Enter and Return seem to do the same thing. It’s frustrating when you type text and have to click off to finish. And you can’t click anywhere - you have to hit the Tools palette.
Now, this may be obvious to you, but it had to be pointed out to me tonight that you can hit Command+Shift+A (the keyboard shortcut for Deselect) in the middle of typing to commit your text and move on.
Sweet!
* On compact keyboards, you usually get Enter by hitting Function-Return.
Or simple press Command-Return :)

Jen Stark does some amazing things with paper, and it’s not the kind of paper you find in your mailbox or toilet. Great style and an incredible amount of patience I reckon, because making paper do what she does with it probably won’t be a 5 minute job ;)
She also has a lot of illustrations, although her paper sculptures are my favourites.
